Certificate Program for IndividualsFrequently Asked Questions
1) Will applications be accepted after the deadline for submission? No. Applications were due April 18, 2008 for the Certificate Program for Individuals. 2) Who is the Individual Certificate Program designed for? The Certificate Program for Individuals is designed for current public agency leaders or senior management in juvenile justice; judges or attorney from the juvenile justice field; current public agency leaders or senior management from child welfare, behavioral health, education and other related systems of care; and political leaders and senior staff holding positions within county commissions, city councils or state legislatures. 3) How do I submit an application to be considered for the Individual Certificate Program? Applications for the Individual Certificate Program should be submitted by e-mail to jjreform@georgetown.edu or by mail to Georgetown Public Policy Institute, Center for Juvenile Justice Reform, Box 571444, 3300 Whitehaven Street NW, Suite 5000, Washington, D.C. 20007. The application must include the application form, copy of current resume and response to questions. 4) How many applicants are currently enrolled in the Individual Certificate Program? The deadline for submitting applications to attend the program is April 18, 2008. No one will be enrolled until after the deadline. 5) How many applicants will be accepted? 35 6) What is the cost of the Individual Certificate Program? The tuition is $4,000 and through the generous support of Casey Family Programs and the Jessie Ball DuPont Fund, financial assistance will be provided in the amount of $3,000 to offset tuition and/or travel and hotel expenses. Tuition must be paid in full before the start of the program. Those applicants accepted for participation will receive additional information regarding the $3000 subsidy. Please note that the $3000 is an increase in the financial support. 7) Can a jurisdiction send in more than one application for the Certificate Program for Individuals? Yes, we encourage all those interested to apply. All applications will be reviewed on an individual basis 8) Can we submit partners to the Certificate Program for Individuals? We encourage all those interested in the CPI to apply. Yes, a partner approach will work for the Individual program and could also help a jurisdiction begin to plan for the team program in the future. For the Individual program we will be asking participants to develop a Capstone paper, which is anticipated to be a plan for work in the jurisdiction. This could be done jointly or individually if the jurisdiction is sending a small team to the Individual program. However, please note that all applications will be reviewed on an individual basis. 9) Can a jurisdiction submit applications for the individual program and the certificate program for teams? Yes. 10) It shows the dates and hours as June 20-27, 2008 from 8am-5pm. Does this class run through the weekend (June 21 & 22) or would we have the weekend off? The Certificate Program for Individuals will be held each day from June 20-27, 2008, commencing on June 20th in the evening and from June 21-27 from 8a.m.-5p.m. The Certificate Program includes the weekend days and the participants would be required to participate over the weekend. Our intention is to minimize the number of work days agency leaders are required to be away from their offices and agencies. 11) Will juvenile delinquency prevention be covered in the curriculum? We will not be covering prevention directly, but there will be a module on family and community engagement, and in the systems integration module we will cover four areas: sharing information across the two systems, blended funding which could be used for prevention, shared case management and assessment. These could link to primary or secondary prevention efforts. The communication strategies will also contemplate a focus on supporting prevention and other areas of reform. 12) Is the Certificate Program for Individuals offered to teachers? No 13) Are there two different applications for the Certificate Program for Individuals and the Certificate Program/Breakthrough Series Collaborative? Yes. No. The Certificate Program for Individuals is offered in Washington, D.C. 15) Is there a certain number of years of experience required? There is no minimum requirement for years of experience or education16) Will the Certificate Program for Individuals be offered via the Internet? No, the Certificate Program for Individuals will be held at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. It will not be available online.
17) What are the educational requirements and minimum work experience requirements to be eligible for the Certificate Program for Individuals? There is no minimum educational requirement for the Certificate Program for Individuals. There is no minimum number of years in regards to work experience.
18) Would teachers and/or advocates be eligible to attend the Certificate Program for Individuals? The Certificate Program for Individuals is designed for current public agency leaders or senior management in juvenile justice; judges or attorney from the juvenile justice field; current public agency leaders or senior management from child welfare, behavioral health, education and other related systems of care; and political leaders and senior staff holding positions within county commissions, city councils or state legislatures.
