- 3. What is the difference between the Multi-System Integration Certificate Program, the Certificate Program for Public Sector Leaders, the Certificate Program for Private
Sector Leaders, the Certificate Program for Individuals and the Certificate Program for Teams?
-
When the Center was formed in 2007, two certificate programs were designed, one for individuals and one for teams from
public agencies. In 2008, both the Certificate Program for Individuals and Certificate Program for Teams were held. The two
programs used the same curriculum, except that the individual program required participants to complete a Capstone Project
independently, while the team program required participants to undertake small tests of change as a team through a year
long Breakthrough Series Collaborative. The Certificate Program for Individuals was
again held in 2009, but the Certificate Program for Teams was not held in 2009. Since there is no longer a team program, there
is no reason to distinguish between individuals and teams, so the name of the program was changed to
the Certificate Program for Public Sector Leaders. The content and structure of
the course was the same as the Certificate Program for Individuals and Teams courses in 2008 and 2009.
CJJR launched its work in this area by engaging public sector leaders, believing that this work needed to be understood and
supported by public sector leaders due to their control over policy and funding in most jurisdictions. While CJJR has marketed
the Certificate Programs to public agencies, we have consistently received inquiries from private sector leaders about the
possibility of their participation in the program. After two years of successful program implementation, CJJR decided
to expand the Certificate Program to the private sector, with a program dedicated to their participation. As a result, the
first Certificate Program for Private Sector Leaders was held in October 2010. Since that time, we have combined the Certificate Program for Public Sector Leaders and the Certificate Program for Private Sector Leaders into one program for both audiences: the Multi-System Integration Certificate Program. The programs were integrated to foster better connections between the public and private sectors and to encourage cross-systems work across these domains. The curriculum remains the same--the only difference is in the program name and the more diverse audience.

- 4. Are the Certificate Programs offered online?
No. At this time, the Center for Juvenile Justice Reform is not providing online courses for our Certificate Programs. All attendees
must be present in Washington, DC at the time of instruction.
- 5. How many applicants will be accepted for the Certificate Programs?
A maximum of 35 participants will be admitted into each program.
- 6. Can multiple people from the same jurisdiction/organization apply for the Certificate Programs?
-
Yes, the formation of a team is highly encouraged. For each of our programs, we encourage small groups of people from the same jurisdiction/organization to apply and form a "mini team" of 2 to 7 people, however, it
must be made clear in the application why it is important for each person to attend. While all applications will be reviewed
on an individual basis, the value of this team approach will be considered in our review.
-
For the Reducing Racial and Ethnic Disparities in Juvenile Justice Certificate Program, participants must form a team to attend the program. This program is not open to individuals.
- 7. Does this program run through the weekend or would we have the weekend off?
-
If the program dates overlap a weekend, sessions will be held on the weekend dates. While we
regret this personal imposition, prior participants have indicated that it has made their attendance possible from a work perspective, as they are able to minimize the number of days they are away from the office.
- 8. Is the Certificate Program offered in another state?
No. The Certificate Program is only offered in Washington, DC.
- 9. Is there a certain number of years of experience required for applicants?
There is no minimum requirement for years of experience or education.
- 10. What if I have more questions?
Feel free to contact us.
